For over a decade, we have worked closely together with local landscape partners to implement and refine the 4 Returns framework. Within these partnerships, we offer direct support and expertise, tools, funding, and access to a global network of people and organisations working on landscape restoration.
We base our collaborations on a holistic approach, good faith, teamwork, continuous learning, and a shared commitment to creating positive impact.
Global and regional partnerships
In line with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, one of our primary goals is to inspire a global landscape restoration movement with the 4 Returns framework at its core. We work with international partners, including Wetlands International and 1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People, to expand our reach, mobilise donors and investors, and support more people and organisations working on landscape restoration.
Regional Learning Networks
To increase the impact of our work, we support a growing number of landscape restoration initiatives through a regional approach. Building upon our local landscape experience, we facilitate learning and collaboration within and between regions. One way we do this is by applying Theory U-guided stakeholder processes at both landscape and regional levels.
Carbon project partnerships
Landscape restoration is crucial to mitigating climate change and managing climate risk. Using the 4 Returns approach, landscape practitioners can help remove carbon from the atmosphere, storing it in healthy soils and vegetation and reducing emissions. Thanks to Commonland’s unique position and network in the global landscape restoration movement, we can connect our landscape partners to other market actors and help them create additional value by participating in the Voluntary Carbon Market.
Is there a match?
To leverage a landscape’s unique ecology, we take a place-based approach, supporting local partners working on large-scale landscape initiatives of at least 100,000 hectares.
Collaboration is at the core of everything we do. We centre our partnerships on a holistic, long-term strategy; regenerative business potential; and bottom-up local leadership.
