As from 1 January 2021, the Dutch Postcode Lottery (Nationale Postcode Loterij) will extend its partnership with Commonland with five years. Since 2016, Commonland has received €3,7 million from the Dutch Postcode Lottery. In 2018, Commonland received Extra Project funding of €1,394,000 for landscape restoration of the degraded hills in the Baviaanskloof, South Africa.
As Commonland, we are thrilled with this continued partnership. It enables us to continue our mission to create a restoration economy by building sustainable landscapes that deliver inspirational, social, natural, and financial returns (4 Returns). This way, we prove that system change within large landscapes is practical and doable. The funding will be used to continue our work in the landscapes in South Africa, Spain, Australia, and The Netherlands, and on communicating what is needed to restore landscapes.
Willem Ferwerda (CEO Commonland): “This is very exciting news. Now, more local partners can realize 4 Returns Landscapes and expand the positive impact on nature and people worldwide. In this way, our work can contribute to achieving the United Nations Decade of Ecosystem Restoration targets, which were recently adopted by the UN General Assembly and starts this year”.
We want to thank the participants of the Dutch Postcode Lottery for their generous contribution. Since the Dutch Postcode Lottery was founded in 1989, more than €6,2 billion has been donated to people and nature.
Since 2005, the Dutch Postcode Lottery format has also been rolled out internationally and is now active in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany and Norway where the People’s Postcode Lottery, the Svenska PostkodLotteriet, the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie and the Norsk Postkodelotteri raise funds for charities.
In the Netherlands, the Dutch Postcode Lottery works together with the BankGiro Lottery and the VriendenLoterij within the Charity Lotteries. Novamedia / Charity Lotteries is the world’s second largest private donor to charities.
